Morne Trois Pitons National Park Overview
The Morne Trois Pitons National Park encompasses 69 sq kilometers (27 sq miles) of varied landscape - lush tropicana and rainforests contrast starkly with volcanic terrain characterized by deep valleys and bubbling pools. The park was created in 1975 and is centered around the Morne Trois Pitons (meaning 'mountain of three peaks'), a triple-spiked mountain formed from volcanic remains, which rises to 1342m (3681ft) above sea level. The Valley of Desolation is a barren area of volcanic rock which contains over 50 fumaroles (geysers) emitting sulphurous gases and steam. One of the most beautiful sites in the park is the Emerald Pool, a waterfall grotto located against a backdrop of tropical plants and flowers. Air: Melville Hall Airport. Road: Bus: Regular public services. Car: Imperial Road to Emerald Pool (from Roseau); Trafalgar Road, then Laudat Road to Trafalgar Falls (from Roseau); Valley Road to Freshwater Lake or Boiling Lake (from Roseau).
