| Cape Town could win you over on looks alone. Set on golden beaches and dramatic cliffs, this South African city does well to turn its spectacular setting into much-loved tourist attractions: there’s the Cape of Good Hope Nature Reserve, penguin-friendly beaches, and 15,000 acres of wilderness (Table Mountain) smack-dab in the middle of the city. Despite a few lingering signs of colonialism, like shantytowns and Rodden Prison—where Nelson Mandela’s cell exists—this rising star’s mood is undeniably upbeat. |
